Military Castes of Bengal

In the list of Military castes cited in the 1891 census general report, the Aguris (Ugra Kshatriyas), Poliyas (Pundra Kshatriyas) & Koches (Vanga Kshatriyas) were selected as the Martial castes of Bengal.

The Mahishyas (Chandravamsha) are the early noted Bengali martial caste in the British chronicles. The combined army of Tamaluk & Mahishadal Estates formed the Mahishya regiment in British Indian Bengal Army. They were trained in advanced western military training.

The Mahishya Regiment was charged to suppress the mutiny of tyrant Tipu Sultan in Mysore where the brave soldiers of Bengali Mahishya regiment showed excellent dexterity in battlefield. British General John Shore thankfully honoured the Maharaja of Tamaluk for this military favour.

Swadhin Bangabhumi Andolan (1973-2006) - Movement for the Independent Hindu Country for Native Bengali Hindus of Bangladesh  Bangabhumi (বঙ্গভূমি, The land of Vanga) also known as Bir Banga (বীর বঙ্গ), is a freedom movement to create a independent Bengali Hindu country for the native Bengalis of Bangladesh in southwestern region, envisioned by Banga Sena. Banga Sena (Vanga Army) is a rebellious Bengali Hindu organization which advocates formation of the Hindu Republic of Bangabhumi for the native Bengalis in Bangladesh. The group is led by Kalidas Baidya and Dhirendra Nath Pal. Rayashrestha Maharaja Pratapaditya

At the beginning of the 16th century, when the shadowy darkness of the tyrannical Mughal Empire began to spread throughout India, the 8 independent Hindu kingdoms of Bengal kept the torch of independent traditional rule burning in Eastern India during the period of unrest. Among these kingdoms, under the leadership of Agnikul Gaurab Raishrestha Maharajadhiraj Pratapaditya of Jessore kingdom, the power of Hindus gradually took shape, and by landing on the front line against the invasion of the Mughal empire, he spread his rule over the whole of Bengal and built an integral traditional Jessore empire. At the end of the 16th century, Maharaja Pratapaditya extended Jessore's borders from Puri to Sandwip by suppressing the Lohani Pathans of the Orissa Sultanate and the Portuguese in the creeks. By ousting the Mughals from the whole of Eastern India and declaring the independence of Bengal, he re-established the Bengali nation's past glory of valour. Maharaj Pratapaditya
