Benoy Kumar Sarkar - The Man Who First Coined The Word "Hindu Rashtra"

Prof. Benoy Kumar Sarkar - The Man who coined the word "Hindu Rashtra"

Prof. Benoy Kumar Sarkar (1887–1949) was an Indian social scientist, professor, and nationalist. He founded several institutes in Calcutta & Maldah, including the Bengali Institute of Sociology, Bengali Asia Academy, Bengali Dante Society, and Bengali Institute of American Culture.

Prof. Benoy Kumar Sarkar (1887–1949)

On 14 November 1924, he composed the book "Structure of a Hindu Rashtra" ("হিন্দুরাষ্ট্রের গড়ন") from Botsen, Tristino, in faraway Italy. The four chapters of the book are titled "Governance Skills of the Hindus", "Swaraj in Hindu Rashtra", "Hindu Society in Ruling Empire" and "Hindu Rashtra in Democracy". In this book, Professor Sarkar has compared the structure of a Hindu Rashtra with the ancient and medieval European states many times.

The book 'Hindu Rashtrer Garan' where he first narrates a brief idea about the structure of a Hindu Rashtra

He writes, In this climate, the Hindu nation is Shakti-Yogi and admirers of velitation. Men and women in India are violent and they won't tolerate a single attack on their religious beliefs. State transactions — whether the work of "Tantra" or the work of International Trade marketing, are all images of the strength of the hands and the strength of the head of the Indian people. In every operation of arms, in every collection of rent, in every "class" -Swaraj and in every land-survey, the blood of our people is flowing and head is sweating.

In 1925 Sarkar started as a lecturer at the Department of Economics of University of Calcutta. He praised Nazism as "form of benevolent dictatorship", and advocated the establishment of a fascist dictatorship in India. His philosophical works of 1920s were translated in German by the Thule Society from which the dictatorship idea of Nazism said to be derived.

The purpose of the present text is to try to measure the speed of the river of Hindu blood. It is possible to survey the state pursuits of the Hindu nation from the fourth century BC to the thirteenth century. It is pertinent to note that till now no detailed research paper has been published on the issues of State Philosophy-History, Politics-Warfare, Techniques and Arms, Administration-Crafts, Architecture-Commercial Transactions in the ancient Bengal Gauda Empire, medieval times Deva dynasty rule, Maharaj Pratapaditya- Kedarnath Ray to Southern Vijayanagara state; So the material of the building materials of a Hindu nation and some of the spices can certainly be found in this episode.

"It is not the occasion for lazily sitting tight on past achievements or for senselessly gloating and getting dizzy over perhaps
unexpected success. And on the other hand, it would be unreasonable to be cynical, pessimistic or skeptical over the up-to-date realizations, whatever they are. At every stage progress spells preparedness for the next war against the new evils of the day. We have climbed a height indeed, But alas, the highest is yet to come!"
